RENAULT CLIO EXPRESSION DCI
I have a new Renault Clio Expression DCI (86) 2009 1500cc, with dual controls for safety, abs breaking, power steering & air conditioning.
As part of the driving test you are now asked a couple of questions about the car, for some of the questions you will be required to open the bonnet and identify where you would check some oil & water levels.
SHOW ME - TELL ME QUESTIONS YOU WILL BE ASKED TWO OF THESE QUESTIONS 1) open the bonnet, identify where you would check the engine oil level & tell me how you would check that the engine has sufficient oil. identify dipstick / oil level indicator, & describe how to check the oil level against the minimum / maximum markers. 2) open the bonnet, identify where you would check the engine coolant level & tell me how you would check that the engine has the correct level. identify high / low level markings on the header tank where fitted or radiator cap, & describe how to top up to the correct level. 3) identify where the windscreen washer reservoir is & how you would check the windscreen washer level. identify the reservoir & explain how to check the level. 4) open the bonnet, identify where the break fluid reservoir is & tell me how you check that you have a safe level of hydraulic break fluid. identify reservoir & check level against minimum / maximum markings. 5) show me how you would check that the break lights are working on this car,(I can assist you with this if you wish,) if you need to switch the ignition on, please don't start the engine. operate break pedal, make use of reflections in windows, garage doors, ect, or ask someone to help, (the examiner is allowed to check for you.) 6) tell me how you would check that the breaks are working before starting a journey. breaks should not feel spongy or slack, breaks should be tested as you set off & the vehicle should not pull to one side. 7) tell me where you would find the information for the recommended tyre pressures for this car & how tyre pressures should be checked. manufacturer's guide, use a reliable pressure gauge, check & adjust pressures when tyres are cold, don't forget spare tyre, remember to refit valve caps. 8) tell me how you would check the tyres to ensure that they have sufficient tread depth & that their general condition is safe to use on the road. check there are no cuts or bulges, & tread depth is not less than 1.6mm across the central three quarters of the breadth of the tyre & around the entire circumference. 9) show me / explain how you would check that the power steering is working before starting a journey. if the steering becomes heavy the system may not be working properly. Before starting a journey two simple checks can be made. Gentle pressure on the steering wheel, maintained while the engine is started, should result in a slight but noticeable movement as the system begins to operate. Alternatively turning the steering wheel just after moving off will give an immediate indication that the power assistance is functioning. 10) tell me how you would check that the headlights & tail lights are working. (no need to exit vehicle). explain; switch lights on (turn on ignition if necessary) then walk round the vehicle to check, (as this is a "tell me" question there is no need to physically check the lights. 11) show me how you would check that the direction indicators are working. apply the indicators or hazard warning switch then walk round the vehicle to check all indicators working. 12) show me how you would check that the horn is working, (off road only). check is carried out by using the horn.(turn on ignition if necessary) 13) show me how you would check the the parking brake (handbrake) for excessive wear. make sure you keep safe control of the vehicle. apply footbrake firmly. demonstrate by applying the parking brake (handbrake) so that when it is fully applied it secures itself, & does not reach the end off it's working travel. 14) show me how you would clean the windscreen using the windscreen washer & wipers. operate the control to wash & wipe the windscreen. (you may need to switch the ignition on, but do not start the engine). 15) show me how you would set the demister controls to clear all the windows effectively, this should include both front & rear screens. set all the controls including; fan, temperature, air direction, & heated screens to clear all windows, engine does not have to be started for this demonstration. 16) show me how you would switch on the rear fog light(s) & explain when you would use them. operate switch; turn on dipped headlights & (ignition on if necessary but do not start engine), check warning light is on, & explain when you would use fog lights. 17) show me how you would switch your headlights from dipped beam to main beam & explain how you would know the main beam is on whilst in the car. operate switch turn on lights put main beam on, (ignition on if necessary but do not start engine), check with main beam warning light. 18) tell me how you would make sure your head restraint is correctly adjusted so it provides the best protection in the event of a crash. the head restraint should be adjusted so the rigid part of the head restraint is at least as high as the eye or top of the ears, & as close to the back of the head as is comfortable. (some restraints might not be adjustable). 19) tell me how you would know if there was a problem with your anti-lock breaking system. warning light should illuminate if there is a problem with the anti-lock breaking system.
